Day 1:

Carterville & Marion

  • Guy Kayaking

Spend a day exploring the beautiful Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge. The Refuge is a great place to observe sprawling natural areas and all the species that call it home. Hike, kayak, fish, picnic, and more at one of Williamson County’s best social distancing destinations. When you’re ready to refuel, checkout Rob’s Pitt BBQ just up the road. Enjoy southern flavors and delicious comfort food at this local favorite! Finish off your day at one of Southern Illinois most trendy overnight locations, Dam Near Lake of Egypt Cabins, only minutes from the Lake of Egypt.

Day 2:

Marion

  • Dock Water Boats

Roll out of bed and drive three minutes to Mack’s Marina to rent your own pontoon boat for the day. Mack’s is located right on the Lake of Egypt and is stocked with everything you’ll need for a great day on the water, soaking up the Southern Illinois sunshine. When you’re ready to get off the water, take a quick trip to Walt’s Pizza, known for their one-of-a-kind double decker pizza. Call ahead to pick up one of their signature pies or enjoy your meal on their outdoor patio. By this time, you’ll probably be ready to head back to the cabin and rest up for another great day!

Day 3:

Marion

  • Sun Flowers

Looking forward to some sleep after yesterday’s activities? The Vault Café on The Squarein Marion serves breakfast until 2 p.m. Stop by to enjoy some delicious breakfast favorites and admire the details of their beautiful, historic location. Before you head out to the next destination, make sure to check out some of the adorable, unique shops in downtown Marion. Next, spend your afternoon relaxing in one of Williamson County’s most serene botanical areas, Mandala Gardens, only a few miles from The Square. This magical place is great for photography, exploring, meditating, spending time with loved ones, picnics, and so much more. If you’re up for another activity before you head back to the cabin, the 618 Taphouse is an excellent spot for good eats and large selections of local craft beer on tap.
